Empowering Youth Through STEAM & Hip Hop Culture
Hands-on, culturally-relevant learning designed to bring out your inner genius

Our Programs
Musicology
This course focuses on the four pillars of hip-hop–DJ’ing, MC’ing, Graffiti, and Breaking. Scholars will gain fundamentals in music creation. You’ll learn technique, music history, beat-matching, as well as blending. You’ll have access to the latest equipment and software. This course provides each scholar with the tools and confidence they need to begin their journey to becoming a professional.
Motorsports
Our love of street motorsports runs deep. At Street College, we carry the coolest RC cars, go-carts, drones, and more. In the first Motorsports course, scholars get their hands dirty building, repairing, and racing RC cars. As students progress, they move into more advanced motorsports racing including leading a racing team, designing team uniforms, creating the team branding, diving deeper into engineering, and recruiting other engineers and racers for their team.
Media
Do you want to be a storyteller, filmmaker, or podcaster? Then the Street College Media course is for you. Building on a rich storytelling history, scholars get hands-on experience with the latest microphones, cameras, and editing software to bring their ideas to life. You’ll learn to interview, record, edit, and collaborate as a production team, with an emphasis on responsible storytelling. As your skills grow, you’ll create long-form documentaries, podcasts, and other media projects that reflect what matters to you and your communities.
Civics
Civics scholars honor hip-hop’s deeply rooted legacy in the community by digging into local issues and exploring how to make positive change at the city, county, state, and federal levels. Through a generous grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services, scholars earn gift cards along the way as they research issues most relevant to them. They seek to understand the issue from multiple perspectives, connecting with people in the community who have relevant lived experience and/or who work in policy advocacy, direct service, and local government. Along the way, Civics scholars bring what they learn back to the studio, ultimately producing multimedia content aimed at educating and activating their peers to join them in making a difference.
